I’m here to say that being here and being part of this group of men, I’ve been fortunate to be able to break those chains and to teach my sons the importance. I mention, not only because it’s important for me. This Father’s Day, I’ll be with two of my three sons at Citi Field. Now I’m a Yankee fan, but the Yankees are out of town, and my oldest son is a Mets fan.

So we’re going to Citi Field. And you know, the importance of that is, for me, I could spend time with my sons, two of them. My other son won’t be there. I’ve told him his birthday is next month. I’ll be bringing him to Yankee Stadium with me. So I’ll be at a Yankee game.

But the real importance of this is it’s a legacy because most of you, many of you are fathers here. You know how important it is to the lasting legacy, not only for your sons, but your daughters as well.

For me, it’s truth. It’s Proverbs chapter three verses five and six, which is trust in the Lord with all your heart. And acknowledge Him in your ways. I’m paraphrasing, but the real key for me is how important it is that they follow my example.

I’ve been fortunate to be with a lot of men here who have helped me in the ups and downs, who blessed me with their presence, certainly in S.E.A.L. Teams, my brother Phil, and all the other men, Pastor Scott and all the other men here who blessed me with their presence and their strength, and I can pass it on now.

It’s very important to me because you can either collide with greatness, that being God’s word. Or you can collide with the world. And we’ve seen what the world has done, what the world can do. And those men in my life and those men who I’ll be mentor, I’m part of a mentoring group. Starting Saturday, I’ll be at a mentoring session for the first time.

What does that mean for me? It means I can pass on what I’ve learned here. And hopefully that young man and my sons will pass on what they learned from me. I think of a song that I hear all the time that I hear on the radio, and it almost brings me to tears. It’s the late Harry Chapin song Cats in the Cradle, and that song is important because it talks about growing up.

And the one phrase from that song is You grow up just like me. Well, how is how are my sons going to grow up like me? Are they going to follow my example of being a Christian man or the world? That’s why it’s important for them to follow me and what I do and to follow God’s word.
